Da Nang and Hoi An suit couples who want a beach and a charming old town in one trip. The main choices are where to base yourselves and which months to avoid.
This page is part of our destination fit topic, so you can set central Vietnam beside other honeymoon places on the same terms.
Who are Da Nang and Hoi An best suited for?
They are best suited for couples who want a mix: a morning on the beach, an evening among lanterns and a few good meals in between. Da Nang is modern and easy, while Hoi An is small and walkable in its old centre. Together they give variety without long flights.
Better options exist if you want a quiet island with nothing planned. In that case, compare it using our guide on Phu Quoc or Da Nang.
How do we get to Da Nang from Malaysia?
Da Nang has its own international airport. Some routes from Malaysian airports are direct, while others connect through a hub. Ask us to check the current schedule for your dates.
Hoi An is a road transfer from the airport, so build that into your plan. Door-to-door time depends on your departure airport and the connection. Book a private transfer for the first day, as arriving tired is not the moment to haggle for a taxi.
When is the best time to go?
Da Nang’s typhoon and wet season runs from September to December, with October the wettest month, and its dry season runs from January to August 1. The driest period is February to April, and the hottest is June to August 2.
If your leave falls in the typhoon months, choose flexible bookings and stay close to the city rather than planning remote outings. Our guide on Da Nang in typhoon season for couples shows how to keep the trip enjoyable.
Where should we stay?
A beachfront resort in Da Nang gives you sea, pools and space, with the old town a transfer away. A hotel in Hoi An gives you lantern-lit evenings and a short walk to restaurants, with the beach a ride away. Each choice shapes your days.
Some couples split the nights between the two. Our guide on Da Nang or Hoi An as your base walks through the trade-offs. If you prefer a beach with city comforts, read Da Nang beach or city hotel.
What is the budget for two made of?
Your total is made of flights, the airport transfer, the room, meals, a lantern or cooking-class evening, spa time and travel insurance. Splitting between two bases adds a transfer, while a single base saves time and effort.
Ask for a written breakdown and add it up for two. Our honeymoon budget calculator helps you line up the quotes side by side.
What about halal food and prayer?
Options are more limited than in Thailand or Malaysia, so plan ahead. Some Muslim-friendly restaurants exist, and vegetarian places can serve as a back-up. Ask each hotel in writing which outlets are halal-certified and which are only pork-free.
Our Vietnam halal food planning for couples lists the questions to send. Ask also about a prayer mat or a quiet space in your room.
What are the entry rules for Malaysian passport holders?
Entry rules for Malaysian passport holders can change, including the permitted stay and any e-visa or declaration. Check the official Vietnamese immigration or e-visa site before you travel, and confirm passport validity.
Our Vietnam entry rules for Malaysian couples guide lists the items to check. Confirm the permitted stay length on the official site for your dates.
How long should we stay?
Four nights with one base keeps things easy: arrive, beach, old town, depart. With five to six nights, split between Da Nang and Hoi An, two or three nights each, so you see both without rushing.
Keep the day before the flight empty. If you add Phu Quoc to the same trip, read our note on combining Da Nang and Phu Quoc first.
How can we help plan it?
We listen to what you both want, check the season and compare two or three bases as a total for two. We confirm your requests in writing with the hotel or operator, including transfers, room position and halal arrangements.
Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and departure airport. You will receive options and trade-offs in plain language, so you can decide together.
