An adults-only rule tells you about children, not about food or alcohol. A resort can be quiet and child-free but still serve alcohol around the pool and have no certified kitchen. Judge it on five attributes, and ask for each one in writing.
This guide belongs to our privacy and rooms topic, and it works alongside our wider page on a Muslim-friendly honeymoon.
What does adults-only not tell us?
It tells you nothing about the kitchen, the bar or the prayer arrangements. Those are separate policies. A resort that is strict about age may be relaxed about alcohol, and the reverse can also be true.
So start with the age rule, then score the other four attributes below. Our guide on what an adults-only resort really means covers the age part in detail.
What are the five attributes to score?
Give each attribute one of three marks: clear, partly clear or unclear. Only “clear” means you have it in writing.
| Attribute | What to ask | Clear looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Age rule | Minimum age, which areas | Whole site, in writing |
| Halal kitchen | Certificate, issuing body, which outlets | Copy of certificate for the outlets you will use |
| Alcohol policy | Where served, part of board plan? | A named bar, not poolside, not in the plan |
| Prayer | Prayer mat, qibla, a quiet space | Items in room, space described |
| Pool and beach privacy | Hours, sightlines, modest swimwear welcome? | A written answer on privacy options |
How do we ask about the halal kitchen?
Say what you need plainly: “Is the kitchen halal-certified, and for which outlets? Please send a copy of the certificate.” Our glossary entry on halal-certified explains the difference between certified and pork-free.
Then read the answer. A certificate that names the restaurant you will eat at is useful. “Halal options available” is not a certificate. Before you pay for a meal plan, work through our halal meal plan checks.
How do we handle alcohol around us?
Decide your comfort level first. Some couples are fine with a bar on site. Others want no alcohol served near their pool or restaurant.
Ask where alcohol is served and whether it is included in the board plan. If it is included, ask whether you can choose a plan without it. A resort that answers this clearly is easier to trust.
What about prayer space and privacy?
Request a prayer mat and the qibla direction when you book, and confirm they will be in the room. Ask whether there is a quiet space on site and whether you would share it.
For pool and swimwear privacy, read our guide on pool villa privacy for Muslim couples. A private pool, high hedges or set pool hours can change how comfortable you feel.
What should we do next?
- Decide which of the five attributes is a must and which is nice to have.
- Send the same five questions to each resort and collect the replies.
- Mark each attribute clear, partly clear or unclear.
- Send us the table and your dates, and we will confirm the open points in writing before you pay.
