For most honeymooners the sweet spot is a balcony cabin in a quiet mid-ship position, if the price for two fits. Choose an inside cabin if you are on a tight budget and will be out all day, and a suite if privacy and space are the point. The table and deck checklist below help you decide.
It sits in our destination decisions topic. For the ship format in full, see cruise honeymoon from Malaysia.
How do the four tiers compare?
Use this table as a starting point and ask the line for details.
| Tier | Privacy | Light | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside | Good, enclosed | None, dark for sleep | Tight budgets, days spent out |
| Ocean-view | Good | Daylight through a window | A modest step up |
| Balcony | Private outdoor space, but check sightlines | Daylight and fresh air | Couples who like quiet mornings |
| Suite | Most space, extra services included | Plenty | Couples who value space and privacy |
Why does the balcony matter for couples?
A balcony gives you a private place to sit, whatever the ship is doing. It is where couples take their coffee, read and watch the sea in the quiet hours.
Check whether neighbouring balconies overlook yours, and whether a deck above can see down. Our guide to balcony privacy, neighbours and views explains the checks.
Which deck position is quietest?
Position can matter more than tier. A mid-ship cabin on a middle deck is steadier and further from engine and bow noise.
Avoid cabins under or over a theatre, nightclub, gym or galley. Also avoid cabins beside lifts and crew doors. Our which room locations to avoid page applies the same logic to hotels.
How do we compare the price for two?
Always compare on the same basis. Ask whether the fare is per person or per cabin, and what is added for taxes, port fees and service charges.
Then list what each tier adds. Is the extra worth it to you? Our upgrade the room or spend on activities guide helps you think it through.
What about motion and seasickness?
If either of you is prone to motion sickness, a lower, mid-ship cabin tends to feel steadiest. Our guide on seasickness and a cruise honeymoon covers cabin position and other choices.
What do we ask the cruise line?
Send the line this short list:
- Is the fare per person or per cabin?
- What is above and below this cabin?
- Is it close to lifts, the galley or an entertainment area?
- What can the neighbouring balconies see?
- Is any construction or maintenance planned?
What should we do next?
Write your budget ceiling for two and your top priority: quiet, light, space or price. Send us the sailing, and we will price the tiers, check the deck plan and recommend a cabin.
