It depends on the resort. Some set a window after the wedding, some check the date and some ask only that you are a married couple celebrating. The safest step is to ask in writing before you pay, and keep the reply.
This guide belongs to our occasions topic. If you want the bigger picture, our honeymoon packages page explains how these offers are built.
How does a resort check the marriage date?
Resorts use a ladder of checks. Know where yours sits so nothing surprises you at check-in.
| Level | What they may do | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Take your word | A short note in the booking |
| 2 | Ask for the wedding date | The date, stated clearly |
| 3 | Ask for a copy of the certificate | A clear scan, names matching IDs |
| 4 | Check the certificate on arrival | The original or a printed copy |
Our guide on marriage certificate proof for honeymoon perks explains what each level looks like.
What if the window has passed?
Ask for the next best thing. Some resorts have an anniversary or couples rate that includes dinner, a room upgrade or a late check-out. The offer name differs but the extras are similar.
Read can you claim honeymoon perks on an anniversary for wording that works. Ask what the resort can add to a regular stay.
What should we ask in the first message?
Put every eligibility question in one email so you get one clear answer. Here is a version you can adapt.
Hello, we are booking a stay from [date] to [date]. We married in [year] and are taking our honeymoon now. Does your honeymoon offer apply to us? If not, is there an anniversary or couples offer with similar extras? What proof do you require, and is it needed before arrival or at check-in? Please also confirm the minimum nights and whether the offer can be combined with a flexible rate.
Save the reply with your booking reference.
What else should we confirm?
The offer may carry rules that matter more than the eligibility date. Ask about minimum nights, blackout dates and whether the extras expire.
See honeymoon package blackout dates explained for the usual traps. Also confirm the cancellation terms, because a package can be stricter than a plain room.
Is it still worth taking a package?
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. If the package gives items you would buy anyway, it can be good value. If not, a plain stay with one or two chosen extras can feel just as special.

What should we do next?
- Gather your marriage certificate scan and check that names match your passports.
- Copy the email above and send it to the resort.
- Save the reply and quote the booking reference when you pay.
- Send us the resort and offer if you want a second pair of eyes. We will check the terms and explain the total for two.
