Resorts that offer honeymoon perks check the date and the certificate, not whether it is a first or second marriage. If you hold a valid certificate and book within the resort’s window, you can ask for the perks. Always ask in writing first.
This guide is part of our occasions topic. For a wider look at packages, see honeymoon packages from Malaysia.
How do resorts check that we are married?
Resorts differ. Some only ask you to tick a box when booking. Others ask to see a certificate at check-in, or a scan beforehand.
The resort is checking a fact, not judging you. Treat the request as paperwork and answer it plainly.
What should we carry?
| Marriage type | Document to carry | Extra tip |
|---|---|---|
| Civil marriage | Marriage certificate | Bring a copy and the original |
| Muslim marriage | Nikah certificate | Carry the document you received |
| Temple or church wedding | Registered marriage certificate | The religious paper may not be enough |
| All couples | Passports | Names should match the booking |
Keep a photo of each document on your phone as well. If the wedding was recent, a copy may be enough; ask the resort what it accepts.
What if we do not look like the typical newlywed couple?
You do not need to explain your history. A resort package is built for a married couple, not for a certain age. Say you are newly married and give the date.
Our guide on whether second marriages can claim honeymoon packages goes through this in more detail. If surnames differ, see honeymoon proof when surnames or nationalities differ.
What wording can we use?
Choose one of these messages and change the details:
- “We married on [date]. Could you confirm which honeymoon perks apply and what proof you need?”
- “This is a second marriage for both of us. Do the honeymoon perks still apply if we travel within your window?”
- “Please confirm in writing the perks, any conditions and the final total for two.”
Send it before you pay. Keep the reply with your booking.
Does the date of the wedding matter?
It can. Some resorts require travel soon after the wedding, others allow a longer window. If your reception follows a nikah later, ask which date the resort counts. See how soon after the wedding you must travel for perks.
If the window has passed, ask about an anniversary or special-occasion option instead.
What should we do next?
- Gather your certificate, passports and the date of your wedding.
- Choose one of the messages above and send it to the resort or to us.
- Wait for a written reply before counting on any perk.
- Send us the dates and the reply. We will compare packages and confirm what is included, with a total for two.
