Balance payment is the remaining amount due after your deposit, paid before you travel. It has a due date, and missing it can put the booking at risk. The balance plus the deposit makes up the full price of the trip.
A useful companion read is reading a cancellation policy.
Why does balance payment matter for us?
The balance date usually falls before the trip, sometimes weeks earlier, and it may land in a busy period after the wedding. Missing it can mean the room is released or a cancellation fee applies. Set a reminder as soon as you confirm, and check the date again once your plans become firm.
How does balance payment show up in a quote?
A booking confirmation may read “Balance due 14 days before arrival; unpaid bookings may be cancelled”. Notice two details: the exact date, and what the supplier does if payment is late. Ask also which payment methods are accepted, as card fees can add to the final figure.
What should we ask about balance payment?
Put these questions to the resort or agent, and ask for the answers in writing:
- What is the exact due date for the balance?
- What happens if we pay late, and is there a grace period?
- Which payment methods are accepted, and are there card fees?
- Will we receive a receipt for the balance and a final confirmation?
