A deposit is a part payment you make to hold a booking, with the rest due later. It tells the resort or agent that you are serious, and it fixes your room and dates. Whether it can be returned depends on the terms you accepted.
A useful companion read is reading a cancellation policy.
Why does deposit matter for us?
A honeymoon deposit tends to be the first large payment after the wedding, so the terms matter. Some deposits are fully refundable until a cut-off, while others are non-refundable from the day you pay. Knowing who receives the money and what protects it is part of paying safely.
How does deposit show up in a quote?
A quote may say “Deposit required to confirm, balance due 30 days before arrival”. The wording tells you two things: the deposit confirms the room, and the balance has a due date. Read the cancellation terms next to it, because they decide what you can get back.
What should we ask about deposit?
Put these questions to the resort or agent, and ask for the answers in writing:
- How much is the deposit, and what does it secure?
- Is it refundable, and until which date?
- Who receives the payment, and in which company name?
- Will we get a written receipt and booking confirmation?
