A MOTAC licence is the licence issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia to travel agencies and tour operators that run their business in Malaysia. It shows that the business is registered with the tourism authority. It does not mean the agency is right for you, but it is the first check to make.
A useful companion read is how to check a MOTAC licence.
Why does MOTAC licence matter for us?
When you pay a deposit for a honeymoon, you are trusting a business with a large sum for a trip that matters. A valid licence is a basic safeguard, and it lets you check that the company is a real, registered business. Be careful with agencies that cannot show a licence, or that ask you to pay into a personal account.
How does MOTAC licence show up in a quote?
On a website you may see “MOTAC licensed” with a licence number in the footer. A number alone is not proof. Look the company up on the official MOTAC site and check that the name, status and address match what the agent gave you. Be cautious if the licence name is different from the company asking for payment.
What should we ask about MOTAC licence?
Put these questions to the resort or agent, and ask for the answers in writing:
- What is your MOTAC licence number and the registered company name?
- Is the licence currently valid, and can you share a copy?
- Will payment go to the company account in the licensed name?
- Which part of the trip is arranged by you, and which by another operator?
