A room upgrade means moving to a better room category than the one you booked, such as a sea-view room instead of a garden-view one. It is normally subject to availability on the day. A confirmed upgrade is different from a request the resort will “try” to meet.
A useful companion read is asking for an upgrade politely.
Why does room upgrade matter for us?
Resorts sometimes offer a complimentary upgrade for honeymooners, and sometimes sell upgrades as paid add-ons. A free upgrade is a pleasant bonus, but it is not something to plan around unless it is confirmed in writing. Ask for the room you actually want, and treat any extra as a surprise.
How does room upgrade show up in a quote?
A package may say “Complimentary room upgrade, subject to availability”. The phrase means no promise until the day of arrival. Another quote may offer “Upgrade to pool villa, additional charge per night”, which is a paid option you can compare against the value of the extra privacy.
What should we ask about room upgrade?
Put these questions to the resort or agent, and ask for the answers in writing:
- Is the upgrade confirmed in writing, or only subject to availability?
- If we pay for it, what is the total for two per night?
- What exactly improves, such as view, size or private pool?
- What happens if the upgrade is not available on arrival?
