Yes, most resorts can swap a wine pairing for something alcohol-free, if you ask before the dinner and get the swap in writing. The question is what you receive in its place and what it does to the price.
This guide sits in our package evaluation topic and fits couples planning a Muslim-friendly honeymoon or simply a dry one.
What can replace a wine pairing?
You have three practical options, from easiest to hardest to arrange.
- A mocktail pairing built by the bar to match the courses.
- Fresh juices, sparkling water or a tea pairing with the same number of glasses.
- A swap into extra food, such as a dessert upgrade, instead of drinks.
A mocktail pairing needs the bar to plan ahead. Tea and juice are simpler. Extra food is easy for the kitchen but may feel less like a pairing.
How do we handle the price?
Ask three things: what the pairing is worth on its own line, whether the same amount can be applied to a swap, and whether the swap is charged at its own price.
If the package does not show a separate value, ask the resort to say in writing what is included when the pairing is skipped. Our guide on drinks packages and value for couples explains how to think about this.
What about the toast and the welcome drink?
A sparkling toast is built into the setup. Ask for an alcohol-free sparkling alternative, such as a grape or apple sparkling drink, and ask that the bottle be served at the table for the photo.
The same applies to the welcome drink. See halal-friendly welcome drinks and cake perks for ideas to request.
Which parts of the dinner might still contain alcohol?
Sauces, marinades, dessert fillings and some cakes can contain alcohol. Say this at the start, not at the end. A kitchen that knows early can choose another sauce.
Also ask about table placement. If the setting is a beach or terrace near a bar, ask for a quieter spot.
What should the message say?
Here is a sample you can adapt.
Hello, we have booked the romantic dinner package for [date]. We skip alcohol. Please replace the wine pairing and the sparkling toast with alcohol-free options, and confirm if the sauces and desserts are alcohol-free. Please tell us the price difference, if any, and confirm in writing.
Our guide on requesting a halal private dinner step by step shows the same approach for the food side.
What should we do next?
- Choose which swap you prefer from the three options.
- Send the message above, with your dinner date.
- Ask for the swap, the price and the dessert details in writing.
- Save the reply with your booking.
- If the answer is unclear, send it to us and we will read it with you.
