A package candlelight dinner usually means one evening meal for two, set up with candles, flowers and a reserved table. The setting, the menu and the extras vary from resort to resort, so the words on the brochure are only a starting point.
This guide belongs to our package evaluation topic. It shows you what to read, what to ask and what to compare.
What does “candlelight dinner” usually mean?
It is a label, not a standard. One resort may mean a private table on the sand with a waiter just for you. Another may mean a reserved table in the main restaurant with a candle on it.
Both are honest uses of the phrase. The difference only matters if you are paying for privacy, so ask which one is being offered.
What should we look at in the setting?
The setting decides whether the dinner feels special or just feels like dinner. Check these points:
- Where exactly is the table: beach, terrace, villa deck or restaurant?
- Can other guests walk past or see you?
- Is there shelter if the weather turns?
- Is music, lighting or a photographer part of the setup?
- How long is the table yours?
Our guide on choosing a private dinner setting explains the differences between beach, villa and restaurant in more detail.
What is named, what to ask, what can cost extra?
Use this table when you read the package page. The right column is where surprises usually appear.
| Item | What the package may name | What to ask | Can cost extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Menu | Set menu or dinner credit | Full menu, choices per course | Upgrades, premium dishes |
| Drinks | Welcome drink or none | Soft drinks, mocktails, wine | Everything after the first drink |
| Setup | Flowers, candles | Who sets up, how long it lasts | Decoration beyond the basic |
| Service | Dedicated server | Hours, table time | Service charge and tax |
| Extras | Photo, music | Who takes the photo, how you receive it | Printed photos, live music |
Where do limits hide?
Limits sit in the small print: a day of the week, a minimum stay, a requirement to book the dinner at check-in, or a rule that the dinner cannot be moved. Ask whether you choose the date, and whether a change is allowed if the plan shifts.
Weather is another limit. Our guide on what happens to a beach dinner in the rain covers the usual wording on rescheduling and refunds.
How do dietary needs fit in?
Tell the resort early, in writing, if you need halal food, no seafood or no alcohol. A set menu is easier to adjust when the kitchen has days to prepare. Read whether the honeymoon set dinner is halal for the exact questions to ask.
What should we do next?
- Copy the package wording for the dinner into a note.
- Send the resort the six questions: setting, menu, drinks, time, tax and service charge, weather plan.
- Ask for the answers in writing, with the date you want.
- Compare the replies against a second package, using the honeymoon package comparer.
- Send us both replies if you want a second pair of eyes on the total for two.
