Entry rules for Malaysian passport holders change, so treat this page as a checklist, not a statement of what is currently required. Confirm each point on the official government site, and do it again shortly before you fly.
This guide belongs to our destination fit topic and supports the Japan, Korea and Taiwan honeymoon pages. Check before you travel.
What do we check first?
Start with your passport, because it affects every destination. Look at the expiry date, blank pages and the name on the page.
Then make sure the name on the passport will match your flight and hotel names. Our passport and name checks page covers this in detail, which matters especially if a name changed after the wedding.
What is on the checklist for each place?
Use the table to see the kind of requirement you must verify. It does not say what the current rule is.
| Destination | What to verify | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Japan | Visa status, length of stay, online arrival forms | Japan’s foreign ministry and immigration pages |
| Korea | Visa or electronic travel authorisation, arrival card | Korea’s official electronic travel authorisation site and immigration service |
| Taiwan | Visa status, length of stay, online arrival card | Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs and immigration agency |
| Hong Kong | Visa status, length of stay, any forms | Hong Kong’s Immigration Department |
Use the government site for each destination, not a travel blog. The wording may mention conditions, such as the purpose of your trip.
How early should we check?
Do three checks. The first when you shortlist, the second when you book, and the third one to two weeks before you fly.
Put the dates in your phone calendar. Some online forms and authorisations need a little time to process, so do not leave them for the airport.
Which documents do we carry?
Carry your passport, return or onward ticket, hotel booking and a way to show you can pay for your stay. Some places ask for these at the border.
Keep digital and printed copies. Save screenshots of any approval or arrival form.
What if our leave is very short?
If your leave is short, choose a destination where you already understand the entry steps. Our visa-time guide lists options when time is tight.
Build in a few buffer days before your leave starts, so a delayed form does not cost you a flight.
What if the plan involves a transit?
Check the transit rules at each airport you pass through, even if you do not leave the airport. Some transits need no paperwork, and others do.
Ask your airline or us about baggage rules too, especially if you travel on separate tickets.
What should we do next?
- Check both passports now: expiry, blank pages and name.
- Open the official site for each shortlisted destination.
- Put three check dates in your calendar.
- Send us your shortlist and we will help you list the steps and keep a timeline.
