You can ask for a modest couples massage, and a good spa will take the request calmly. The trick is to ask in writing, before you arrive, one point at a time. This guide gives you the sentences and the checks.
It belongs to our romantic experiences topic and pairs with our page on a Muslim-friendly honeymoon.
What should we decide before we ask?
Talk to each other first. Modesty means different things to different couples, so agree on your limits.
Use this short list to settle them:
- Do you each want a therapist of your own gender?
- Do you want to be in the same room, or in two rooms next door?
- Which areas must stay covered at all times?
- Is a hijab or head covering to stay on, and if so, which treatments suit that?
What can we copy and send to the spa?
Send these as a message or email so there is a written record. Edit the details to match yours.
- “We are a married couple booking a couples treatment on this date. Please confirm a private room.”
- “Could my wife be treated by a female therapist and me by a male therapist?”
- “Please keep a towel covering us at all times and uncover only the area being worked on.”
- “We prefer no treatment on the following areas: …”
- “Could you list the oils and products used, so we can check for alcohol-based ingredients?”
Which questions check the spa’s answer?
A friendly “yes, no problem” is not yet a plan. The table shows what to ask next so the answer is specific.
| If they say | Ask this next |
|---|---|
| “Yes, female therapist” | “Is she confirmed for our time slot, and noted on the booking?” |
| “We have a private room” | “Is the door lockable and is the room fully closed from the corridor?” |
| “Our products are natural” | “Please share the ingredient list or the product names.” |
| “We are Muslim-friendly” | “Is any part of that halal-certified, or is it about the arrangements?” |
See our glossary on halal-certified if you want to know why the answer matters.
What if the spa cannot meet a request?
Choose which points are firm and which can bend. A private room and same-gender therapist are firm points for most couples who ask. Music, scent and room size may be flexible.
If one firm point cannot be met, move on. A spa that says “we will try” has not yet agreed. Read private room or shared room for more on checking the room itself.
What do we ask on the day?
Repeat the key points quietly at reception. Say them again to the therapist before the session starts.
You can pause or stop at any time. Staff expect this, and it is not rude. If you want to know the flow of a session first, read what to expect at a first couples spa.
What should we do next?
- Agree between you on the firm points and the flexible ones.
- Send the written requests to two or three spas.
- Keep the replies in one chat or folder.
- Send us the replies, and we will compare them and confirm the arrangements for two.
