Some honeymoon extras give back less than they cost, especially the ones bundled into a romance package. Before you say yes, ask what you get, ask what it replaces, and compare it with doing it yourselves.
This guide sits under our budget topic, and it works best next to the splurge or save worksheet, which tells you what you actually care about.
Which extras tend to disappoint?
These are upsells worth questioning. Each has a cheaper way to get the same feeling.
| Extra | Why it may not pay off | Cheaper alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Flower petals on the bed | Gone in a day, and cleaned up by the staff | A few flowers from a local market |
| Fruit basket and sparkling drink | Close to what the room offers already | Ask for fruit at breakfast |
| Decorated room | You may be out when it is set up | Request a simple note and a towel arrangement |
| Premium dinner set menu | Higher price, same view | Table with a view, order from the main menu |
| Long photo package | Hours you may not use | A short session at sunrise |
How do you decide if an extra is worth it?
Ask yourselves three questions before you agree to any add-on.
- Will we notice it, or will we be out when it is delivered?
- Is there a plainer version that gives the same feeling?
- If we skipped it, would we regret it a week later?
If the answers are “no”, “yes” and “no”, skip the extra and spend the money on a moment you will remember.
What about romance packages?
A package is only good value if the items inside are things you would buy anyway. Ask the resort for the list line by line, then price each item separately.
If a package bundles a dinner, a room upgrade and breakfast, it may be worth it. If it adds flowers, a cake you will not eat and a bathtub treatment you did not ask for, it is not. Our guide on what each romance add-on should cost helps you compare.
Which spending is worth keeping?
Extras that change how the trip feels each day tend to hold their value. A quiet room, a good bed, a dinner you both want, and enough time to rest all come back to you daily.
Extras that exist for a photo tend to lose value. If you do want photos, a short session costs less than a long package. We compare the two in honeymoon photographer or phone.
How do you decline an upsell kindly?
You do not need a reason. A calm answer works well.
- Thank the staff for the offer.
- Say you have planned the trip already.
- Ask them to note your preference for the rest of the stay.
You can still change your mind later. A kind “not today” keeps the stay relaxed for both sides.
What should you do next?
- List every extra offered in your quote, with its price.
- Ask the three questions above for each one.
- Mark the items you would keep, and the ones you would swap for something cheaper.
- Check the total with the honeymoon budget calculator.
- Send us the quote if you want a second read, and we go through it with you.
