A fair price for a romance add-on is the sum of its parts: materials, staff time, food and tax. If the quote shows only one figure, you cannot judge it. Ask for the parts, then compare each against what you could arrange yourself.
This is one of the money questions in our budget topic, where we explain prices as a total for two.
Why is it hard to judge an add-on price?
Add-ons are sold as a feeling, so the quote can hide the work behind it. Fresh flowers, labour, a table and a view all sit inside one line.
Resorts also set prices by what the setting allows. A beachfront dinner needs more staff than a dinner in the restaurant, so the price follows the effort, not only the food.
What drives the price of each add-on?
Use this table when you read a quote. The right column is what you ask the resort.
| Add-on | What moves the price | Ask the resort |
|---|---|---|
| Flower bed or petal setup | Fresh or artificial flowers, size, setup and clean-up time | Are the flowers fresh? What time is it set up? |
| Private dinner | Menu, location, number of courses, staff, music | Is the menu halal? Is service charge included? |
| Cake or sweet treat | Size, flavour, who bakes it | Is it made in-house? Is it halal-certified? |
| Photo session | Photographer’s time, edited photos delivered, location | What is the edited photo count? When are they delivered? |
| Spa for two | Treatment length, therapist, room type | Is the room private? Can therapists be same-gender? |
| Sunset cruise | Shared or private boat, drinks, duration | Is the boat only for us? What is the cancellation rule? |
How do we test the price?
Take each line and ask yourself what it would take to do the same thing without the resort. A cake from a local bakery is one comparison. A dinner at a good restaurant is another.
You will not match the setting, and that is fine. The point is to see whether the gap between the two prices is explained by real extra work. Our guide on resort surprise add-ons versus doing it yourself walks through this.
Which add-ons deserve the money?
Spend where you will both feel it. For most couples that is one meal, one view, or one quiet hour together.
Our notes on flower bed decoration and private dinner pricing explain what you are paying for in each case. If a package already includes some of these, check the package extras checklist so you do not pay twice.
What should we write down before we say yes?
Keep it short. A few clear lines in the resort’s reply protect you more than a long conversation.
- The item, its date and its time.
- What is included, named one by one.
- Halal status of any food, if this matters to you.
- Whether service charge and tax are inside the price.
- The cancellation or change rule.
What should we do next?
- Copy the add-on lines from your quote into a note.
- Ask the resort for line items and the questions in the table.
- Choose one add-on you both want and drop the rest.
- Send us the quote, and we will check it with the resort and give you a total for two.
