A private beach dinner is worth it when the sea view, the quiet and the occasion are what you want to remember. It is less worth it if you would be just as happy at a nice table indoors. The test below helps you decide without guilt either way.
This guide is part of our romantic experiences topic, where we judge extras by what you actually receive.
What are we really paying for?
You pay for more than food. A good arrangement combines a location, a set-up, a menu and staff time, all for two people.
| What you pay for | What you actually get |
|---|---|
| Location | A table with the sea in front and no queue |
| Set-up | Lanterns, cloth, flowers, lighting |
| Menu | A planned set of courses, chosen in advance |
| Staff time | One or two people serving only your table |
| Risk cover | A backup if weather changes |
If one of these rows is weak, the price is harder to justify. Ask the resort which rows are included.
Which five questions decide it?
Answer yes or no together:
- Is the sea view the main reason we want this?
- Will we be happy to dress up and be photographed?
- Is the budget still comfortable after flights and the room?
- Does the resort offer a covered backup?
- Would we regret skipping it?
Four or five yes answers point to booking it. Two or fewer suggest a simpler option may feel just as good.
When is it better to skip it?
Skip it when the weekend is short and you are already tired. A late, formal dinner by the sea asks for energy, dressing up and patience with wind.
Skip it also when the price would force you to cut something you value more, such as a night in a better room. Our guide on what couples regret cutting is a useful check.
What if rain, wind or sand spoils the evening?
Beach dinners have more weather exposure than any other setting. Wind can blow out candles, and a short shower can end the evening. Plan for it, and read what happens to a beach dinner in the rain.
Sand and wind also affect what you wear. Light, closed shoes and a cover-up for the breeze make the night more comfortable.
What are cheaper ways to get a similar feeling?
- A table at the resort’s beachfront restaurant at golden hour.
- A sunset picnic for two with food from the resort.
- A set dinner on your own terrace.
- One special course added to an ordinary dinner.

What should we do next?
- Answer the five questions together tonight.
- If you lean yes, ask the resort for the setting, menu, wet-weather plan and total for two.
- If you lean no, choose one cheaper option from the list above.
- Send us your choice, and we will check the details with the resort and confirm in writing.
