Ask six groups of questions about every extra: what it is, when it happens, what it is worth, what limits apply, what proof you will get and what happens if it fails. Fill the answers into one grid and the quotes become easy to compare.
This checklist sits in our package evaluation topic. It works alongside our page on honeymoon packages from Malaysia.
Why do extras confuse comparison?
Each supplier names extras differently. One writes romantic dinner, another writes candlelight dining, and a third writes welcome set. They may be the same thing or very different.
Without the same questions, you compare words and not value. A fixed list of questions turns each extra into a line you can compare.
What do we ask about what the extra is?
Start with the plain description.
- What exactly is the extra, in a sentence?
- Who provides it: the hotel or an outside operator?
- Is it for two people or per room?
- Is there a menu, a duration or a number of items?
Our guide on what a honeymoon package really includes explains common items.
What do we ask about timing and limits?
Most problems come from timing, not content.
- On which date and at what time does it happen?
- Is there a blackout date, a minimum stay or a weather rule?
- Does it expire, and when?
- Can the date be changed once booked?
What do we ask about value and cost?
Ask for a price and the terms for each extra, so you can tell perks from filler.
- What is the separate price of the extra?
- Is anything charged on site, such as service charge or tax?
- If it is a credit, what can it be used for?
- Can the extra be replaced by another benefit?
For help judging value, send us the answers and we will compare them with you.
What do we ask about dietary and personal needs?
Ask whether menus can be adapted for halal, vegetarian or allergy needs, and whether spa and photo sessions can follow your modesty preferences. A yes should come with who confirms it.
What do we ask about proof?
Ask what written confirmation you will receive and when. Our guide on checking extras are truly confirmed shows what a good confirmation looks like.
Use our email template to confirm honeymoon perks to put the request in writing.
How do we compare three quotes?
Draw a grid. List the extras down the side and the three quotes across the top. In each cell, write the answer to the six categories in a few words.
| Extra | Quote A | Quote B | Quote C |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dinner: what, when, limits | |||
| Spa: credit or fixed, expiry | |||
| Room: decoration, upgrade terms |
You can also use the package comparer tool to organise the answers.
What should we do next?
- Copy the six question groups into one email.
- Send it to each supplier and ask for written answers.
- Fill in the grid and mark any gaps.
- Send us the grid, and we will help you decide which quote gives the most for two.
