Ask for walking distances, not just room features. The details that decide how comfortable you are, such as lifts, ramps and time between places, are the ones suppliers seldom mention. If you ask for them in writing, a gentle honeymoon is easy to plan.
This page is part of our booking requests topic. For the bigger picture of a calm trip, read honeymoon for older newlyweds, comfort first.
Which five details do suppliers rarely mention?
Suppliers describe the room and the view. These five matter more for your knees and energy, so ask directly.
- How far the room is from the lobby, dining and pool
- Whether the paths are flat, sandy, paved or have steps
- Whether there is a lift, and whether it is reliable
- How guests are carried between airport, boat and room
- Whether a buggy or shuttle runs, and at what hours
How do we map a typical day?
A worksheet turns vague answers into a picture of your day. Ask the resort to fill in the walking time for each leg.
| Leg | Walking time | Steps or slope? |
|---|---|---|
| Room to lobby | ask the resort | |
| Room to breakfast | ask the resort | |
| Room to pool or beach | ask the resort | |
| Lobby to transfer pick-up | ask the resort |
If the resort cannot answer, assume the walks are long and look for a smaller place.
What about transfers and getting around?
Most of the strain comes from transfers: a long ride, a boat step, luggage, a wait in the sun. Ask how long each leg takes and where you can sit.
Our guide on an island honeymoon without a car shows how a no-car trip works day to day. If the answers point to a lot of walking, choose a place with a shuttle.
Which room is better, ground floor or a lift?
A ground floor room removes stairs but may be nearer to noise. A room with a reliable lift can be quieter.
Ask for the lift’s location, and ask for a room near it. For quiet, see how to request a quiet room and get it.
What about rest, health and insurance?
Plan a rest block each afternoon and keep one lighter day after travel. Carry prescribed medicine in your hand luggage, with a note from your doctor.
Check your insurance for age and health limits, and read what honeymoon travel insurance actually covers. If anyone uses a wheelchair or walking aid, our wheelchair access questions go into more detail.
How do we get this on record?
Ask the resort to confirm in writing your room, its distance to the lobby and dining, and any buggy or help with luggage. A reply that says “we will do our best” is a hope.
Keep the email on your phone and show it at check-in.
What should we do next?
- Agree on the longest walk each of you is comfortable with.
- Send the five-detail list to two resorts.
- Ask them to fill in the walking-time table.
- Choose the one with shorter legs and a reliable lift.
- Send us the replies and we will compare them for two.
