A confirmation number is a code issued by the hotel, airline or operator to show that your reservation exists in their own system. It comes from the supplier, not from the agent. It is the strongest proof that your room or service is actually held.
A useful companion read is travel agent red flags.
Why does confirmation number matter for us?
If you book through an agent or platform, the booking reference only proves their record. The confirmation number proves the supplier’s record. For a honeymoon, where the room, dates and transfers matter, asking for it protects you from the situation where the agent has your payment but the resort has no booking.
How does confirmation number show up in a quote?
A confirmation email may list “Hotel confirmation no: 884-221” beside your guest names and dates. Check that the names match your passports, that the dates and room type are right, and that the status says “confirmed”. If it says “pending”, wait before you pay the balance.
What should we ask about confirmation number?
Put these questions to the resort or agent, and ask for the answers in writing:
- What is the hotel or supplier confirmation number?
- Is the status confirmed, or still pending?
- Do the names, dates and room type match what we booked?
- Can the resort confirm the reservation to us directly if we ask?
