A first-night dinner is included only if the written confirmation says so. Wording such as “welcome dinner available” or “on request” may mean the resort will arrange it, but not that it is covered. The label table below helps you read the difference.
This guide belongs to our season and timing topic, because the first evening depends on when you land.
What do package labels really mean?
Resorts use similar words for different promises. Read the label first, then ask for the matching proof.
| Wording | Most likely meaning | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome dinner included | Set meal for two, covered | Which night, which restaurant, menu |
| Dinner credit | A fixed amount off your bill | Does it expire? Can drinks be included? |
| Complimentary dinner | Covered, but check terms | Minimum nights, blackout dates |
| Dinner on request | Resort can arrange it | Is it paid or free? |
| Romantic dinner available | An optional extra | Price and booking deadline |
Our guide on what a honeymoon package really includes shows how to read the rest of the list.
What are the six questions to ask?
Send these to the resort in one message, so the answers sit together.
- Is the first-night dinner included in our rate, or an extra?
- Which restaurant, and is it a set menu or a credit?
- Which night, and can it move if we land late?
- What time is the last seating?
- Is the menu halal-certified, or only pork-free?
- If we miss it, is there a swap, a credit or nothing?
What if it is a credit and not a set meal?
A credit is flexible but easy to overspend. It covers a set amount and you pay the rest. Ask whether tax and service charge are inside the credit.
Compare it with a fixed menu. Our note on dinner credit or fixed menu explains which one suits a tired couple on arrival.
What if the dinner is a candlelit setting?
A candlelight dinner is a different item from a welcome dinner, and the details vary. Ask about location, privacy, menu and rain plan before you assume.
For the details, see package candlelight dinner: menu, setting and limits.
How do we handle a late or tired arrival?
If you arrive tired, a long dinner may not suit you. Ask whether you can have a lighter dinner, a room-service version or a swap to breakfast.
Match the dinner to your flight. If you land close to the kitchen closing time, ask for the rule in writing. The first night should feel easy, not like a rule you are racing against.
What should we do next?
- Copy the package wording about the dinner.
- Send the six questions to the resort or to us.
- Save the written reply with your booking.
- Ask us if you want a hand reading the answer, and we will give you a total for two.
