Book through a platform if you know exactly what you want and are comfortable fixing problems yourself. Use an agent if you want a person to compare options, confirm requests and help when plans change. Neither is always cheaper, so compare on support, clarity and total price.
This guide belongs to our package evaluation topic and applies to any agent, including us.
What does each route give you?
A platform gives speed, a wide choice and the ability to compare yourself. An agent gives a person who listens, compares options and handles requests with hotels.
The question is not which is better in general. It is which suits the two of you for this trip.
How do they compare side by side?
| Point | Online platform | Local agent |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Fast, self-service | Slower, with a conversation |
| Choice | Wide listings | Selected options |
| Special requests | You message the hotel | Agent asks on your behalf |
| Changes | Through the platform’s tools | Through the agent |
| Problems | Support channel plus hotel | One person who knows your plan |
| Price | Visible, compare yourself | Quoted as a total for two |
How do we test the support?
Imagine three problems and ask who you would speak to: a delayed flight and late arrival, a room that does not match the photos, and a date change after your leave shifts.
Ask each seller these scenarios before you pay. A clear, specific answer is a good sign. A vague one tells you something too.
What should we check about payment and licensing?
Ask for the company name, licence details and payment method. Confirm the licence with the official tourism authority before paying.
Payment should go to an account in the company name, with a written receipt. Our guide on warning signs of a package that is too cheap lists payment demands to be careful about.
How should we compare the price?
Compare the exact room, board basis, taxes, service charge and cancellation terms. A lower headline price can hide a stricter policy or fewer inclusions.
Our guide on whether a travel agent costs more or less explains how to ask what an agent’s price includes.
When is each route the better choice?
- Platform: simple room-only stay, flexible dates, you enjoy comparing.
- Agent: islands with transfers, special requests, halal or privacy needs, short leave.
- Both: use a platform to research, then ask an agent to compare.

- Compare room, inclusions, cancellation and total for two.
- Ask both the three problem scenarios.
- Check licence and payment details.
- Send us the two offers if you would like help comparing.
