Phu Quoc is at its calmest from November to March, and the rainy season runs from May to September. 1 If your leave is in the wet months, go for a villa, spa and food stay, and treat swimming and boat trips as a bonus.
Our Phu Quoc honeymoon page covers the island. This guide helps you decide about the wet months.
What does the calendar look like?
According to Vietnam’s tourism information, the dry season is November to March, and the rainy season is May to September. April and October are transition months. 1
| Months | Sea and beach | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|
| November to March | Calmer seas on the west coast | Couples who want beach and boat days |
| April | Transition | Flexible couples |
| May | Swell is building, swimming fair | Couples who accept some change |
| June to August | Rough seas, swimming poor | Pool, spa and food couples |
| September | Wettest month | Couples with a flexible plan |
| October | Transition, heavier rain still possible | Flexible couples |
What does a wet-month stay feel like?
The days can be warm and slow, with rain arriving in bursts. The sea may be too rough for swimming, and boat trips may be moved or cancelled.
If you imagine long beach walks and island hopping, the mismatch can disappoint. If you imagine a pool villa, massages and long dinners, the wet months can feel private and calm.
Is a lower rate a real saving?
Not always. A lower room rate is only a saving if you still enjoy the days. Ask yourselves:
- Will we use the beach, or the pool?
- Do we need boat trips to feel it was worth coming?
- Can we move plans if a day is rough?
- Does the resort have indoor things to do?
- What are the cancellation terms?
Compare the total for two, including transfers and extras, not only the room price. Our guide on overseas alternatives when the east coast is closed lists other places when the weather turns.
Which side of the island is better in the wet months?
Conditions vary by coast and by day. Ask the resort which beach is usable on your dates, and choose a base with good indoor options. See Phu Quoc, which side suits couples for the trade-offs.
What if we have a storm window?
If your dates also fall in a broader storm period, read our guide on Da Nang typhoon season for ideas on flexible booking, which apply to any wet-season trip.
What about halal food and prayer?
Bad weather keeps you at the resort more, so ask about halal-certified meals and a prayer space before you book. Do not assume, confirm in writing.
What should we do next?
- Check which period your dates fall in.
- Decide whether you need swimming or boat trips.
- Choose a resort with a pool and indoor activities.
- Send us your dates. We will compare a wet-season plan with another month or place, and confirm cancellation terms in writing.
