Put both quotes in one table, line by line, on the same dates, room and taxes. Whichever total is lower after taxes is cheaper, and the other lines tell you what you gain or lose for the difference. A package wins when it bundles things you would buy anyway.
This guide belongs to our decision methods topic. It pairs with comparing honeymoon extras by real value.
What goes in the template?
Make one row per item, with a column for each way of booking.
| Line | Package | Room-only plus extras | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Room and nights | |||
| Breakfast or meal plan | |||
| Transfers | |||
| Dinner or setup | |||
| Spa or activity | |||
| Taxes and service charge | |||
| Total for two |
What does a worked example look like?
These are sample units, not real prices. Say the package totals 1,000 units. Priced separately, the room is 700, the dinner 150, the transfers 100 and the spa 100, which is 1,050.
The package is cheaper by 50 units here. Now suppose you would never book the spa. Your real separate total is 950, and the package is 50 units dearer for you. The same quote can flip depending on what you would actually use.
Which lines quietly differ?
Check these before you trust the gap.
- Nights and dates. A package may require a minimum stay. See minimum night rules.
- Room type. The package room may be a different category from the room-only one.
- Taxes and charges. One quote may include them while the other adds them later.
- Expiry. Vouchers may expire before your last night.
- Blackout dates. The perk may not apply on some days.
Is the package price tied to something else?
Sometimes the package rate hides a different room category or limited availability. Ask: “Is this the same room as the room-only rate?” and “Does the package apply on all my dates?”
Read when a honeymoon package beats booking separately for the situations where bundling helps.
How should we compare cancellation terms?
Lay the cancellation policy of each quote in a row of its own. A cheaper non-refundable rate carries more risk than a slightly higher flexible one. Our page on package cancellation versus flexible rates covers the trade-off.
What if the quotes use different formats?
Quotes from different sources rarely line up. Rewrite them into your own table. Our guide on comparing quotes on the same basis explains how.
You can also use the package comparer to keep the lines in order.
What should we do next?
- Ask for a room-only quote on the same dates and room type.
- Fill the template line by line.
- Cross out the lines you would not buy.
- Compare totals after taxes and check cancellation terms.
- Send us both quotes, and we will build the side-by-side as a total for two.
