An included transfer usually has conditions on flight time, airport, waiting time, vehicle and the return trip. None of them are unusual, but each can turn a free pickup into an extra charge. The six checks below let you scan the wording before you rely on it.
This guide belongs to our package evaluation topic. To see what else a package usually lists, read what a honeymoon package really includes.
What are the six limits to check?
Go through them in order and note the answer beside each.
| Limit | What to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Flight window | Which arrival hours are covered? | A late flight may fall outside it |
| 2. Airport and terminal | Which airport and terminal is the pickup from? | A wrong-airport pickup is not served |
| 3. Waiting time | How long does the driver wait after landing? | Delays can end the free wait |
| 4. Vehicle | What size, and how much luggage? | Extra luggage may not fit |
| 5. Return trip | Is departure included, and at what time? | Arrival-only packages are common |
| 6. Changes | Can the pickup move if our flight changes? | A fee may apply |
How do we decode the wording?
Package text is short, and each phrase hides a question. Here are two examples.
“Complimentary return airport transfers, subject to availability” means the transfer may not be offered on every date. Ask for the dates it is not available and what replaces it.
“Shared transfer from the airport” means a shuttle with other passengers. Waiting and extra stops are likely. Ask whether a private option is available and what it costs.
What is the wrong-airport pitfall?
Some destinations have more than one airport or terminal, and a package may name only one. If your flight arrives at another, the driver will not be there. Check the airport code on your booking against the one in the package.
Also check that the pickup point is stated, such as arrivals hall or a named meeting point, so the driver and you look in the same place.
What happens if our flight is late?
This is the most common surprise. A driver who waits a short time and then leaves can strand you late at night. Our guide on what happens to your pickup on a late flight explains flight monitoring and how to avoid losing the ride.
Should we book our own instead?
Sometimes. If the included transfer is shared, limited to certain hours or does not fit your luggage, a private booking may be simpler. Read hotel transfer included or book your own to compare the two.
How do we compare the included transfer with a quote?
Put the package limits next to a private operator’s answers on the same questions. Our transfer quote comparison sheet gives you one page for that.
What should we do next?
- Copy the transfer wording from your package.
- Ask the resort the six questions in the table.
- Compare the answers with your flight times and luggage.
- Decide whether the included transfer is enough or whether to book a private car.
- Send us the answers if you want help deciding.
